1- Who are the Syrian expatriates?
The Syrian expatriates are the Arab Syrians abroad who left Syria to reside permanently in a foreign country, and those of a Syrian decent who were born in a foreign country and obtained its citizenship.
2-What do we mean by submitting a country visit application?
Each Syrian expatriate who is not under the military service has the right to visit the country for 3 months once a year by submitting a visit application.
3-Where can the expatriates submit a visit application?
The Syrian expatriate has one of the following choices:
1.Filling in the application available on our website portal attached with the documents that prove him to be an expatriate.
2.Having any of his parents, siblings, or children submit a visit application at the Ministry of Expatriates in Damascus, Syria (the representative should have his identity card with him).
3.Submitting a visit application to the Syrian embassy in the country of residence.
4-What are the documents that prove being an expatriate?
1.A photocopy of the foreign passport.
2.A photocopy of the page of residence on the Syrian passport.
3.A valid document that proves the residence issued by the Syrian Embassy in the country of residence.
4.Any other valid and accredited document that proves being an expatriate.
5-How long is the approval validity period? Can it be extended?
The validity period is /6/ months since the date on the letter of the Emigrants and Passport Directorate that is circulated on the borders. The validity period can not be extended, and in case the expatriate could not make use of the approval within the validity period either by visiting the country or by getting a new passport he needs to submit a new visit application.
6-What are the exceptional cases to obtain a second visit approval in the same year?
In case of the death of any member of his family, the serious illness of the expatriate or any of his family members that is proved by legal medical report, or completing marriage procedure the expatriate has the right to get an exceptional approval (even if he has been given a previous one in the same year). In this case the expatriate should submit an application to the Ministry of Expatriates in one of the ways mentioned in the answer of the second question mentioned above.
7-Is it possible for the expatriate to obtain a new passport without coming to Syria?
Yes, the expatriate can obtain a new passport by submitting an application to one of the following:
1.The Syrian embassy in the country of residence.
2.Sending his old passport to any member of his family members residing in Syria to get him a new passport (in this case the expatriate should have a valid visit approval).
8-Is it possible for me to grant my foreign wife and children the Arab Syrian nationality?
If you have registered your marriage according to the procedures and principles in force, in the civil registry in Syria, then your children will be considered Syrian citizens and your wife is registered in the family record without having the citizenship for it needs different procedures to be obtained.
9-Does the Ministry of Expatriates provide assistance to the communities abroad when organizing to any cultural event?
If any of the expatriate brothers or associations initiated to organize an event related to Syria; its history and cultural massage, the Ministry of Expatriate can provide the assistance and facilitations as possible, but an adequate study should be presented to the ministry in advance to study it and consider any help or support.
10- What is the procedure to be followed by the expatriate charged with the military service and ages more than 42 years to settle his military status and visit the country?
The upper age of military service charging is 42 years according to Legislative Decree No. 30 of 2007 for military service (previously it was 52 years).
For the expatriate charged with the military service and ages more than 42 years, he must settle his military status by paying a financial substitute through a transaction in which the financial substitute value varies according to his latest academic degree obtained (the financial substitute is /6500/$). This means that the obligations for the mentioned expatriate are only financial ones, and he must pay the determined financial substitute through a transaction presented to his Conscription Section to cancel his being in charge with the military service and settle his military status.
